At SERVPRO of Antioch our technicians specialize in all kinds of dirty jobs, in particular; sewage clean up. They are trained to know and understand the USA-EPA, OSHA and IICRC guidelines and standards when it comes to sewage clean ups. First and foremost, our concern is always safety. IICRC which stands for the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification is an international association leading training and education for the restoration industry. Sewage is classified as a category 3 black water loss in their S500 standards. Category 3 water losses are grossly contaminated by either sewage or mold which can contain pathogenic, toxigenic and or harmful agents. When it comes to sewage contamination the water has to be addressed correctly, this is why a certified professional is necessary and recommended.

When it comes to sewage clean up all affected areas should be pre-treated with an EPA registered disinfectant to help minimize cross contamination. All bulk water should be extracted, and all porous and semi porous materials should be removed and disposed of. For instance, when dealing with sewage or unsanitary water that affects a Bathroom with tile flooring and a Hallway with carpet flooring on a slab foundation. The scope should entail all bulk water being extracted, wet carpet and padding will be removed and disposed of. Vanity will be detached and inspected for contamination. All drywall and insulation in the affected area will be cut out and disposed of at a minimum of 24” high. The remaining materials which is structural wood framing and concrete slab foundation will need to be heavily sanitized and dried by placement of dehumidification before the structure can be reconstructed. During the cleanup process we also place air quality machines called Air Scrubbers which filtrates the bacteria in the air by using HEPA filtration down to .3 microns in size.

SERVPRO of Antioch takes pride in helping others with their restoration projects, particularly when it comes to restoring indoor environments by making them safe and like new again. Should you ever come into an unsanitary situation be sure to have the cleanup performed by a skilled and certified company such as SERVPRO of Antioch.
